35 Progressive Studies by Fernando Sor for Classical Ukulele

A few years back I ran into some health issues and using a full scale classical guitar became an issue. Recently I acquired a ukulele and while I enjoyed strumming some tunes, I also wanted to be able to play some classical music with an instrument I could practice comfortably with. I stumbled upon Jeff Peterson's books for classical guitar arraigned for ukulele and baritone ukulele. What a fortunate find. Now, I feel like I have a treasury of well arranged classical pieces to keep me learning for years. Sor has been described as the Beethoven of classical guitar and you will in all likely hood fall in love with this study. Sor dedicated his late works to teaching students classical music and his progressive studies besides being highly educational are a treat for the ears. And, Mr Peterson has done an excellent job of arranging these for ukulele ...highly recommended.

I love playing Sor for classical guitar; this is a progressive (hence the title) collection of well-known studies edited for ukulele (low g). It’s a playable and enjoyable tool for persons learning finger-style uke. If I had students, I would recommend it to them.

I’ve been playing along to the performance videos that go with the book. On YouTube you can slow down the speed which is a necessity when you’re first learning a piece. I really like Sor and am enjoying working my way through the book. Each study is a little different with something new to work on. The pieces sound great too! If your low G ukulele is looking for new repertoire, this book is it.

A week ago I received my copy of Jeff Peterson’s 35 Progressive Studies by Fernando Sor, for Ukulele. This collection is so well thought out, meticulously arranged, and organized progressively-exactly as the title promises. Jeff has provided us(ukulele players)with one of the best and most musical resources out there to bring our playing to another level. The sequence of one study to the next is brilliant and I am so thankful to have this book. Last week I began at the beginning(a very good place to start☺️)and am now working much more slowly through the end of the intermediate section. Because the progression is excellent, going from one piece to the next makes all the techniques much more attainable. Many thanks to Jeff for taking on this project for all of us.

Already enjoying this collection very much. Fernando Sor arranged for tenor ukulele is a treat. Beginning pieces are familiar and very approachable, while paging through to later pieces I can imagine working through this book for years. Highly recommend. Get it soon before Mr. Peterson realizes he set the price way too low!
