I've been using my AeroPress rather intensely since diving in to Keto in May 2017 (and some time prior), so let's say over 8-10 months of intense multiple uses per day and daily, pressing espresso grind through a stainless screen (some good pressure on it), I was seeing an accelerating degradation of performance of the original plunger gasket. That is, I was finding blow-by leakage even with only the weight of the plunger on the liquid surface, and there were more and more occurrences of explosive blow-by, which was getting to be messy and frustrating. As well, I believe there was air leakage in general which was reducing the pressure applied to the grounds in the chamber. My latter observation is anecdotal, but with the aging gasket still installed, a new coffee I had just purchased from my local indy shop did not come close to the extraction they achieve at the shop with their pro equipment and expertise. On replacing the old with the new, I presume that constant pressure helped with a little bit extra flavor in the results... I was instantly happy that I had taken the chance on a new gasket. As well, good seal all around, the blow-by issue appears to be solved and I don't need to mop up coffee explosions anymore. Finally, I had been using my AeroPress quite a bit, but after each and every use I clean the screen and plunger with water and allow all parts to air dry disassembled (that is, plunger, tube, screen, screen carrier all separate). Obviously it is possible that coffee oils (or cacao nib oils) remaining on the gasket may have played some role, but I'm going to guess this was plain old friction wearing it out. At something like 1/4 the price of a new AeroPress kit (obviously not needed), this replacement gasket is all win.

I've had an Aeropress for almost 10 years and I noticed recently the rubber was getting all weird and sticky. I started to think I would need to replace the whole thing but then I found this product! If your Aeropress is getting old this is a must to rejuvenate it. It is very easy to install, I just removed the old rubber cap, gave it a good clean and then popped this one on. Aeropress now like brand new again!
