AM antennas are not hard to improvise but they're also so inexpensive that it seems worth it to buy a premade one. I do get better results with this than I do by improvising an antenna. This receives very well. I tried it out in the fashion in which it's meant to be used--the bare wire ends are fitted to the posts on the back of a radio--and I've used it on a portable radio by simply attaching the bare ends to the existing antenna. The results were good. I do notice that my AM reception is a bit better. It seems to boost my shortwave reception a bit, too. There's not much too this antenna from a technical standpoint, just attach it to your radio and move it around until you find a location that gives you good reception. Simple, inexpensive and it definitely does improve my reception.

I work on old radios and still appreciate AM broadcast. This antenna will work with most of the older component receivers that have AM external antenna connections. It is compact, thus may not receive as well as a larger antenna. Size and location outside of metal encased surroundings really affect AM reception. It can be used for older AM receivers in some environments. I have connected it to one of my 70 year old tube radios for testing and the results were very acceptable.

The loop antenna on our stereo receiver was accidentally broken and we need a replacement. Though we really don't use AM all that much we wanted to keep the functionality. This antenna was a good choice as a replacement. Easy to connect and works better than the original.

This antenna did not improve the reception on my old AM radio, thought it might work well for a device with no antenna at all. The lead wire is quite short and the base is so light that it tips over when you try to stand it up. If I were to use it, I'd need to secure it with screws or double-sided tape. The leads just have tinned tips, so I crimped on a ring connector, but it was tricky stripping the very thin wire without breaking it. At least it's inexpensive.
