I bought some of these because the famous make is absolutely extortionately expensive!Absolutely gorgeous and my daughter for whom I bought them was delighted.

I took a risk getting this for my wife, as in the past she has always complained that cast iron pans are too heavy. Whilst it's true this is a weighty dish, the benefits easily outweigh (!) it's hefty nature. The cast iron is perhaps a little thinner than pans produced a few decades ago, meaning you don't need to be a weightlifter to heft it onto the hob or into the oven, but it's still a two handed job.Cooking ability is exemplary, one of the main benefits to iron being it's ability to conduct the heat provided evenly. So when cooking on the hob you don't get those burn spots where the flame is hitting the pan. And the ability to fry up meat and onions on the hob, then add sauce and other vegetables and stick it strait into the oven makes it exceptionally durable. There's no plastic so it will handle pretty much any heat source (electric/gas/induction hob or electric/gas oven) with ease, except for a microwave of course). I also noticed that our oven didn't steam up as it usually does when cooking stews, I assume this means the heavy lid and anti drip lid means it's well sealed, keeping almost all of the fluid within the dish, rather than it escaping and condensing on the oven glass.It's a perfect size for a family meal too, be it a stew, casserole or bolognaise sauce. And the colour looks great, ours lives on the hob instead of being tucked away in a cupboard.Downsides? Well, this is an expensive dish and the inside enamel does absorb some of the colour of the food, though not excessively. But it is easy to clean, leave it to soak in soapy water for a while and a gentle wipe is all that's required.Treated well, this should last a lifetime.

One cannot help compare this casserole dish with Le Creuset and it does so more than favourably, as the quality is there but not the price - at the time of writing Amazon sold this BK Cookware Dutch Oven at a staggering £86.00 less than its counterpart. So it really depends on whether one is willing to pay a lot more for a certain name or whether it is substance that counts.This beautifully hand-crafted, heavyweight dish is extremely robust, being very well-made from cast iron which is then coated with enamel Provided it is cared for (particularly the type of stirring/serving utensil that is used so that the enamel can be protected and also allowing the dish to heat up gradually) , there is no reason for it not to last a life-time.Its versatility is another strong point, as it caters for many methods of cooking such as frying, stewing and braising and can be used in the oven and very conveniently on any type of hob.Food is expertly cooked as being cast iron, it absorbs the heat and does so evenly; even the lid comes in to play, as it has dripping rings that allow condensation to be evenly distributed throughout the dish. After eating the well-cooked contents of the dish - even if I say so myself, my stew was delicious - it can then be thankfully loaded into the dishwasher.This is a seriously good addition to the kitchen and although not cheap, it costs way, way less than le Crueset and is a cast-iron investment in many years of good cooking! 5 stars.

I don’t normally write reviews but for a high price item I was really disappointed with this. Used it once since I have bought it to make a sourdough loaf and have realised the handle has cracked in two places.My oven only goes up to 220 and loses heat due to a badly fitting door, so it wouldn’t have gone any higher than the description states the pot is able to go, and it has only been hand washed. It’s a real shame as it’s a beautiful pot and I bought a more expensive product thinking that it would be an investment that will last at least a few years. Having cracked on it‘s first use, I don’t expect it to last more than a handful of uses before the handle falls away.
