Ive had the pickup now for about 8 months - I love this little unit - it works great on my 12 string Guild.About 3 months ago I picked up an old Zither and tried it out on that too.It sounds fantastic and I am able to move the pickup around to different locations on the Zither body. I've spent hours testing different positions finding a new sound every time (depending on the pickup location).Lately - I am running this pickup into a BOSS Guitar Multi Effect Pedal - the combo is very cool and fun to experiment with.I recommend this product to anyone with an acoustic guitar (or zither).

I play in a church band. Best sound is into a condenser mic, but must have a great sound tech on board to boost without getting feedback or even worse, won't get me in the mix. This pickup provides a decent solution. I don'twant to alter my instrument so the tacky stuff is working. I don't recommend leaving it stuck on for a long period of time, like over night, as it does seem to leave an oily trace on the top, but I can live with that as opposed to drilling or putting something inside my mandolin that wasn't constructed there in the first place. Don't know how long the tacky will last but I've used it for several months and so far the original dab of tacky is still working. This is a great cheap solution for me and my situation. I adhere it below the high side and the sound man slightly cuts the top and adds a bit of reverb.Update: Marred the finish on my natural colored Gibson A9 mandolin. Left a permanent oily shiny spot. Dissatisfied.

It has a nice sound once you find the best place to stick it. This review is how this device sounds on a six steel string guitar. Very sensitive to finger noise. You must have a good preamp or it is useless. I would advise just sticking it on and leaving it permanently. The directions suggest there are three hot spots one at the top of the bridge, one at the bottom and one behind the center of the bridge.Below the bridge it is way to jangley almost all finger noise and the strings are thin and shrill sounding. Above the bridge it is too bassy and does not have a full clear sound. Behind the bridge is where I find is the only place it has a workable tone. Place it there and don't bother with the other two locations. As with most instruments and their pickups it can take a year of use before you hear the subtle anomalies. Its sensitivity will dictate the way you play it. I am playing it on a guitar I paid 100 dollars for new. On a several thousand dollar guitar it might possibly degrade the finish. It can be removed but why take the chance of shorting out the pickup itself by possibly compromising its internal soldering.4 stars because finger noise is quite prevalent and the tacky clay is okay but seems kinda temporary not sure what else would work though. But for 30 dollars it is worth it for the unique sound it produces and gives me more options in my recording studio. I may try adding a microphone also and blending the two. It seems as though it has the accuracy and high end that a microphone lacks. It will take some time to figure out if and where this is really going to work.I have played out live for many years with a black Dean Markley humbucker in hole pickup and this seems to be really the best option for a rugged on the road option. The DM black humbucker in hole pickups are 40 dollars less than I paid for it years ago.For on the road definitely go with that instead of this DM3001 but in the recording studio I am quite intrigued with the unique possibilities this pickup may provide. One interesting note: I used a synth based guitar in a recording recently and placed this pickup at the lower part of the bridge where it only picks up a screechy string and finger noise and blended this really quietly with the synth guitar and it added a real human feel to the synth guitar.I am pleased with this for my purposes, I hope it is durable. Time will tell. If your needs are like mine then it is worth the purchase, not recommended for on the road (just my opinion). Go with the black in hole DM humbucker instead, you just cannot go wrong with that.
