I bought 10KG (22 pounds) of these buckwheat shells to make a king sized bed pillow. I had read many articles about how wonderful pillows made from buckwheat shells were, but the prices for a king size bed pillows were lots more than I wanted to spend. Any buckwheat pillows that were affordable, where tiny Japanese styled pillows that are 1/2 the size of a standard American bed pillow. I bought 2 zippered pillow protectors at the link below. I doubled them, since buckwheat shells are much heavier than other pillow stuffing material, but these covers were nice thick cotton so a single one would probably been fine. I also ordered a pound of dried lavender flower buds at the second link below, which I mixed with the buckwheat shells. These give the pillow a heavenly subtle smell of real lavender.I like a pillow that is firm underneath, but soft on its surface. I never had a pillow that I really liked, and I'm 60 years old. This pillow when I finished was just a tiny bit more firm that perfect, but it was really very close. The next day I bought the cheapest, flimsy king size pillow at WalMart, when was extremely soft and compressed to near nothing under pressure. I put this extra soft pillow atop my extra firm buckwheat pillow, and I've now got a feel that words cannot adequately describe.The total cost of everything, including the WalMart almost nothing pillow as a topper, came out to about half the cost I found online for the buckwheat pillows that reviewers have recommended. The others are affordable for the tiny Japanese sized, but few places even sell king sized buckwheat pillows. My pillow is really stuffed FULL with 10KG. Beside wanting it extra firm, I wanted it taller/thicker than normal pillows. I am a big guy and have extra broad shoulders, and I like to sleep on my side. To support my head without it stretching my neck, I need the pillow about 6 inches thick.In the past I've normally used 3 pillows stacked. Even it they felt good when I fell asleep, as I turned and moved during the night, they'd get bunched and wadded up during the night and become uncomfortable enough to wake me, and I'd have to straighten them at least once every night. Often the middle pillow would "squirt" out from between the other 2 pillows and land on the floor. This heavy 22 pound pillow does not move, no matter how much I move during my sleep. The one flimsy soft topper pillow for softness, moves with head as I move in my sleep, and it stays comfortable since the heavy one underneath never shifts.The 22 pounds I used for this one extra thick, extra firm king sized pillow, would easily fill 2, and possible 3 standard sized luxury pillows. The cost for these would be about the same cost as premium foam standard sized pillows, and half the cost of other buckwheat pillows.Cotton Pillow covers with zipper buds
