Costing from 12 pounds, with two cheap K-type thermocouples supplied, maybe one shouldn't expect great things from the Uni-T UT320D but the temperature reading is consistent, in this case consistently about one-and-a-half to two degrees Celsius too low. If you're prepared to check the thermometer and thermocouples against known temperatures (melting ice/boiling water) and make adjustments for calibration then you can be more accurate. This meter, like similar ones, uses electronic cold-junction compensation to replace the cold-junction that would have been in melting ice in original thermocouples. The instructions say that several minutes must be allowed for the compensation to be effective. True enough.The local weather station showed lower pressure than standard atmospheric pressure but not enough to account for more than 0.3 degrees of the 2-degree discrepancy. In making a comparison between the two plugged-in thermocouples they were in a similar spot each time: locked in the spout of a boiling kettle, they recorded 97.9 degrees Celsius one day and 98.2/98.3 the next instead of 100 (see the pictures); in a small fridge they recorded 10.2/10.3 (not a great fridge, and no melting ice available for testing, sadly); for an electric fan oven, where it was more difficult to place the thermocouples beside each other, there was a bigger difference - 179.4/186.1 with the oven set at 200 degrees (an old oven); for body temperature they recorded 35.4/35.5 (at 37 degrees, of course). The consistency between the supplied thermocouples is surprisingly good, then, precise but not accurate. The device itself is relatively easy to use: the hold button works, the other buttons have functions which depend on how long one presses: the auto-off function, temperature scale, K- or J-type thermocouple, T1 minus T2, Max./Min./Avg. all work fine. The hold button is supposed to be shared with a backlight, which definitely doesn't work. In all, it's good enough for my purposes with plug-in K-type probes because I'm happy to calibrate it. If you want more instant accuracy, spend more money.

Das Gerät habe ich aus Interesse gekauft, um herauszufinden, in welchen Aufstellwinkeln Viessmann Heatpipe-Röhrenkollektoren besonders gut ihren Dienst tun (Messen des heißen Endes bei Sonneneinstrahlung - mit dem Ergebnis, dass man den lt. Viessmann zulässigen fast horizontalen Einbau besser bleiben lässt: echte 9° sollten es mindesten sein!). Aber auch wohnungsseitige Oberflächen-Messungen an bauartgleichen Fensterscheiben sind spannend: ab welchem Lichteinfall lohnt es sich, Rollläden hochzuziehen (und umgekehrt: sie wieder herunter zu lassen) können helfen, Energiesparoptimierungen vorzunehmen!Da es ein Thermoelement-basiertes Messverfahren ist, können alle Arten von Oberflächen gemessen werden (im Gegensatz zu Infrarot-Messgeräten). Das macht es besonders attraktiv!

Messfunktion ist gut, Messsonden zeigen exakt gleiche Werte. Leider wurde Gerät mit fehlerhaftem Display geliefert, man muss Gerät nach unten drehen um Werte lesen zu können. Schade
