Abrasive belts can be bloody expensive sometimes and if you buy from the local DIY superstore you might need a second mortgage to get them.Which, is why I buy in bulk online. There's nothing overly fancy about abrasive belts and I've found that pretty much they all do the same thing unless you are trying to do something esoteric like polish diamonds. Not that I've tried that to be honest, but you get the idea.These are a great value selection that cover the extreme ends of what you might conceivably need on a portable belt sander. A tool that's probably wrecked more woodworking projects than termites.That being said a belt sander if used with a delicate and cautious hand can be a boon if you need to really remove some wood or paint.I bought these because my daughter owns a pub and had made up a load of outside benches and tables using galvanised pipe for handrails and scaffold boards. Looked great but when she and her partner finished they did realise that scaffold boards when new are rough and figured that people would end up snagging their clothes on the wood.So I took along my sander and helped even things out and bought a couple of sets of these to do the job. Which they did admirably.The coarsest grit is nearer a gravel road than a sanding belt - which was perfect for the initial wood removal. It does cut damned fast and really is only for the worst type of wood.Then I went up the grits until the surfaces were in good shape - at least for the requirements.The belts lasted very well indeed and using the correct grit without too much pressure means that in all honesty despite having spend a day using them I've not had to throw a belt away.Overall a cracking value for money collection of belts with a coarse one that's much heavier than any other I could find.
