I have given this 5 stars as it is the perfect product for a hamster and both me and my hamsters love it. However, it wasn't all plain sailing getting this product! First I'll write a bit about the cage, then I'll write a little bit about delivery as I know this concerns a lot of buyers, including myself.The cage is brilliant for a Syrian hamster. I would not use it for a Guinea Pig or Rabbit like it is marketed for though. Having owned both of these animals previously they need much more room and better ventilation. Unless you are only keeping them in here for a very short time I would not recommend it at all. For a hamster though, there is plenty of room. You can fit a 28cm (12 inch) wheel in here easily, just don't make the substrate deep in that area. You can fit loads of toys, climbing things and houses and they still have loads of floor space to run around in as well. There is plenty of room to add an extra shelf/level if you want to. The wire bars on the top are about 1cm wide, enough to keep the hamster in and they can still monkey bar too. I had been looking for a cage this size for a while but all the wire spacing was too wide and I didn't want to mesh it myself. This cage has 2 water bottle holes and this has been the only issue I encountered with this cage. You will either need to use 2 water bottles or block one hole up. I made the mistake of leaving the unused hole open and one of my Syrians got her nose in it and started chewing it and within a couple of days she had started to make a tiny hole in the plastic base. It's now blocked with a massive wooden house so she can no longer get to it and she doesn't even try. I was worried that they may try and chew the small plastic ledge that runs around the base on the inside of this cage. But neither of my hamsters have shown any interest in this at all. They don't even attempt to chew the cage as they have plenty of wooden toys to chew instead. I have 2 Syrian hamsters in 2 separate cages and I cannot recommend this cage highly enough.Now on to delivery! I ordered one for my female Syrian hamster and after reading reviews about broken cages I was a little apprehensive but went for it anyway. It arrived quickly, in a big box, packed with extra paper and it was fine, no problems at all. About a month later I got a rescue Syrian and ordered him one of these cages too, without hesitation. The packaging on that one was appalling, just wrapped in some really thin cardboard. Needless to say it was cracked and broken quite badly, so I returned it requesting a replacement. The damaged one was collected very promptly and free of charge, the only hassle was trying to wrap it back up again because the cardboard just kept ripping. Almost a week later the replacement turned up, in a box this time but it had come from Germany. I had higher hopes for this one making it in one piece but again, it was cracked badly down one of the corners of the lid. That was returned too, this time I requested a replacement on a Friday evening and it arrived very quickly, on the Monday. This 3rd one was the worst packaged of the lot, ripped and especially in one corner. However, when I opened this was I was very surprised to find it in pretty much perfect condition. There was only a tiny bit of one of tips the corners that had broken off. I glued it back on, it's nothing that the hamster can get to anyway and even if I didn't glue it the cage still would of been fine. I have ordered from Amazon for years and never had to return anything before now. I will pretty much say it's just a matter of luck if you get this in one piece or not which isn't really good enough! I expect that's what puts a lot of people off buying this cage. It's hard to find anywhere else, but if you do choose this as a hamster home you will not be disappointed! If you can find it in a shop and buy it in person I would say that's probably a better option though!

Most hamster cages on the market and sold online or in pet shops are in no way suitable for hamsters, and don't come anywhere near the minimum size for hamsters (100cm x 50cm). Although often advertised for rabbits and guines pigs (it's not big enough for them) this is great for hamsters. It fulfils the minimum size (although bigger is always better), the bar spacing on the top is small enough to prevent escapes for all sizes of hamster (from Roborovski to Syrian), and the lack of bars on the sides means you can build up the substrate to allow for digging (15cm is the minimum depth required - ideally much deeper). It's just about tall enough to contain a 30cm wheel (the correct size for a Syrian), and there's room for lots of enrichment, different substrates, a multi-chamber hide etc. It's also a good price for what it is, and because it's light, it's easier to move around and clean. I have two of these for my rescue hamsters, one containing a Syrian, and the other containing a Russian dwarf. I also have a large glass tank containing a Russian dwarf, which is better in terms of allowing more depth for digging, but is impossible to move and much harder to clean. And I have a ZooZone 2, which is okay size-wise, but not as user friendly - it's clunkier, more noisy to open etc (not good for the resident) and the top has to be meshed as the bars are too widely spaced (I use it as an emergency/hospital cage). On balance, of all the enclosures I have used, this Ferplast Maxi Multi Duna is the best, and the most practical to use. The only downsides are that it would be good if it was somewhat taller, to allow for deeper substrate; and if you have a hamster that particularly loves to chew, they have been known to chew their way out (although this hasn't happened with mine). Also you need to protect any unused water bottle holes (there are two) as they allow a starting point for chewing, and some hamsters will immediately start chewing their way out; and you have to find a way to suspend the water bottle on the outside (I use small sticky hooks from B&Q). I would still recommend this enclosure though, as the best-sized, good-quality and practical enclosure for a happier hamster on the market, unless you start constructing your own custom-made enclosure or tank. If you care about your hamster's quality of life, please ditch all the awful, inhumane cages you'll find in any pet store and get this instead. (NB Plastic enclosures are not suitable for gerbils. I'm not sure about mice - please check with mouse experts!).

Wie immer gilt es natürlich zu beachten, dass man seine Tiere artgerecht hält und diese auch nicht dauerhaft in zu kleinen Käfigen halten kann.Als Käufer solcher Artikel sollte man sich dessen stets bewusst sein - im Wohle des Tieres :)Ansonsten handelt es sich hierbei um ein wirkliches tolles Produkt zur Kleintierhaltung. Es ist sehr gut verarbeitet, stabil und kann auch ohne Probleme gereinigt werden. Ich habe es für unter 50€ bei den Warehousedeals erstanden - ein super Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis!Sonst ist es auch relativ schwierig, an Käfige mit mit Ummantelung aus Plastik zu kommen, da man meistens nur noch Gitter als Ummantelung bekommt. Diese Firma ist mittlerweile die Einzige (nach meinem Kenntnisstand), die noch Käfige mit Plastik statt Gitter anbietet. Bei Gitter hat man den Vorteil der guten Belüftung für die Tiere, jedoch kann es vorkommen, dass das Tier aus den Schlitzen Heu, Streu etc. herauswirft. Deswegen haben wir uns für diesen Käfig entschieden, damit wir nicht ständig den Boden säubern müssen ^^Um das Problem mit der Luft bin den Griff zu bekommen, kann man Löcher in die Plastikummantelung bohren, was einwandfrei funktioniert hat. Und das Meerschweinchen fühlt darin auch sichtlich wohl - das ist ja die Hauptsache :)Beim Versand wurde der Käfig von DHL beschädigt (Karton war auch deformiert). Man konnte es jedoch durch Kleber wieder reparieren.Wie immer reibungsloser Ablauf durch Amazon :)FAZIT: Klare Kaufempfehlung, wenn man nach einem Käfig mit Plastikummantelung sucht!
