After lengthy research into what metal detector to buy as a first time hobbyist, I first decided on the slightly cheaper F22 but then decided that the extra features of the F44 were worth it. It arrived quickly and was easy to assemble.The positive features of this product far outweigh any negative qualities and I have been extremely happy with it so far. The larger search coil makes finding things much quicker and was the main reason I chose this detector. If you are interested in finding items faster, it's well worth it.The pinpoint feature works pretty well, but not amazingly. It definitely gives you a clearer idea of where to look, but there's usually still a good amount of searching around.The depth that the detector searches is very good, and seems to be a maximum of about 14 inches or so, although most everything found so far has been within a few inches of the surface.Sensitivity overall is great and can detect even very small things. I really like the different search modes and the ability to adjust sensitivity easily.That all being said, I think if you are just stating out and you just want to see whether you like metal detecting or you just want to have a few hours of fun every now and then, go with the slightly cheaper option. If you are really interested in searching regularly and want something well built and reliable, with some extra features, this product will be a great choice.

Great metal detector

I bought it primarily for finding buried survey stakes. I found the two I was looking for fairly quickly. I knew roughly where they were so didn't have to search all over. It pays to follow the user guide to understand the operation & indicator signals & sounds. I found the pin point button very helpful then used a plastic marker to show the exact location. Then probed around the immediate area with a 8" nail. The probe also worked well. You know when you've found the iron stake with the nail. Saves digging up much of anything except directly over the stake. I have more survey stakes to find but don't anticipate any problem.
