Graded Hawaiian Repertoire for Ukulele: For high G Ukulele

I learned one of the Hawaiian ukulele songs from Jeff Peterson's website and wanted to learn more. This book didn't disappoint. It is well-researched and jam-packed with plenty of content to keep me busy for a long time (60 songs in 128 pages). It is notated in the best way for ukulele players: standard notation, tab, fingering recommendations, and chords. The tunes are organized by difficulty level, gradually increasing from easiest to most challenging. Use the link to hear the recordings and you will be even more inspired. I'm not turned off by the binding because I am used to that with my piano music books. Definitely a great purchase.

Schöne Sammlung seltener zu findender alter hawaiischer Stücke. Sie sind für High G arrangiert und zwar sowohl in normaler Notenschrift als auch in Tabulatur. Sie beinhalten auch Empfehlungen für den optimalen Fingersatz der linken Hand. Die Stücke sind nach Schwierigkeitsgrad geordnet, von recht einfach bis anspruchsvoll. Nur schade dass keine alte hawaiische Spieltechniken erklärt werden, aber es ist ja kein Lehrbuch sondern eine Sammlung von Musikstücken. Weiterhelfen kann einem da z.B. das neue Buch von Elisabeth Pfeiffer, die Hawaii Etüden. Volle Punktzahl für das Buch von Jeff Peterson!

There is nothing on the market like Jeff Peterson’s Hawaiian Repertoire for Ukulele. This delightful collection of 60 Hawaiian tunes, traditional and contemporary, are fun to play. I purchased this book last spring and it has given me hours of enjoyment. In the three years that I have been a member of Jeff’s Ukulele Corner Academy, I have become a big fan of his arrangements. Great lengths are taken toward arranging for smooth transitioning between chords and notes. I mainly read tablature so I love that Jeff has incorporated the rhythm into the tablature on all of his arrangements. I appreciate this thoughtful inclusion. For example, you will know when the note or chord on the tab has a dotted quarter rhythm or eighth or sixteenth rhythm without having to look up to the standard notation all the time. Neither Hal Leonard nor Mel Bay’s books include the rhythm on tabs. It’s very rare to see.No, the arrangements don’t include the lyrics, but I find the process of looking them up and writing them in myself, engrains the music into my memory more effectively. It also motivates me to listen to different interpretations of the song as well, which I find very helpful.I highly recommend this book. I also highly recommend Ukulele Corner Academy. Jeff is a masterful musician and instructor. If you are motivated and serious about advancing at fingerstyle ukulele, check it out. You will find a wealth of resources and genres of music for ukulele including classical, blues, jazz, Hawaiian, Christmas and Baritone ukulele. You can’t go wrong!

I highly recommend the Graded Repertoire for Ukulele (High G) Hawaiian Volume 1 for beginning intermediate (and more advanced) uke players. Jeff Peterson is a Master Ukulele player, composer and arranger. The pieces in this book are masterfully done and fun to play. This is purely a "fingerstyle" book with no lyrics. Just so you know. Lyrics to these traditional Hawaiian songs may be found elsewhere. Great quotes throughout the book. The difficulty level progresses fairly quickly in Vol 1. Just take it slowly at first, then work pieces up to tempo. Check out Jeff's interpretation of some of these classics on-line for a wonderful musical experience. This book is highly recommended for advancing uke players.
