I love homemade butter and I was always searching for the perfect dish to keep my butter fresh. This is perfect butter dish to keep butter soft, fresh and in the right temperature. It is functional and looks very stylish. I love this butter dish and it is worth any money.Highly recommended!Thank you for reading my review. I hope that you found it helpful.

Have been interested in the idea of a butter bell for a while now, and when I saw this I couldn't wait to order it. It also helps that it's almost exactly the same colour as my other crockery, so it fits right into my kitchen! It's a very sturdy item with a lovely glazed blue finish and has a quality feel about it. I couldn't quite figure out how these worked until I had this one in my hands, but it's actually quite a simple concept. The top part has a deeply dished interior (hence the name butter bell) which you squish some softened butter into (I actually just cut some off the block straight out of the fridge and smoosh it in there). You put around an inch of water into the bottom section and then place the top half into the water (so the butter is clinging to the "roof" of the bell and the edges are submerged in a little water). This creates a seal and helps to keep the butter fresh for longer at room temperature. It has certainly been a hit in our house as I've had to refill it several times already and I've only had it for a week and a half! Strangely I seem to be the only one in the house to actually fill it though!

I've often been intrigued by beurriers but since I already own a butter dish, I've never felt able to justify paying upwards of £20 for something I don't actually need. And to be perfectly honest, my existing one keeps my butter fresh and softened because I keep it at room temperature by the toaster. Anyway, I was delighted to be offered this beurrier to try out, and I must say that while I haven't noticed it performing any better than my other butter dish, I really do like it. And I also like that it doesn't take up as much space on the counter. I suppose the true test of freshness will be in the summer, and softness in the winter. Until then, I am happy to keep on using because it does its job, is well-made, and looks great.

I was intrigued to try this out and see how it works. I actually prefer to buy a traditional block of butter rather than go for spreadable versions as they contain nasties to make them spreadable. But I like to keep some in the cupboard as opposed to the fridge so that it is soft enough to spread! The way it works is you put water in the bottom to the fill line then pop the top part back in full of butter and the water keeps it soft but makes a seal as well, fresh and spreadable, I am happy! And it looks great on the side, nice heavy ceramic.

To be honest I didn't even know this sort of item existed! If you're anything like us, it's quite frequent we leave the butter out to keep it spreadable but at some point it goes sour/rancid and ends up in the bin. What a waste. The alternative is keeping it in the fridge and only melting what you need (in the microwave?) but it can be a bit of a faff.Clean the item first, then you essentially spread fresh room temperature butter into the lid of the item leaving no air gaps. I guess that's the first issue, there's no real way of guaranteeing you don't leave any air trapped. Then fill the bowl with some water and you submerge the lid into the water. In comes the second issue. When you've filled it with butter this will work no problem, but as you start to use the butter you can't guarantee when you resubmerge it in the water that there isn't air trapped in the areas you've scooped butter out of.The idea being that when exposed to the air, it will go off/rancid. And that submerging in water protects it from the air. And obviously it's all at room temperature, keeping it spreadable. The last issue for me is that the lid is slightly mis-manufactured so when placed down it's slightly offset which is a bit annoying but doesn't affect the performance. So does it perform? So far it is doing but it's hard to say as I've been using all the butter up recently. It's not the nicest experience in the world having to shake water off your butter before you spread it to be honest but if it keeps it fresh, I'm willing to do it.I like the design with the denby-style glazing and it looks good on the counter top.Could do with being a little bigger though to be honest as it doesn't fit a full 250g block of butter in my experience. All good so far, will report back if I get any butter still going off in the warmer months...
