Fantastic piezo pick up! My luthier made it nice and thin so it really sounds just as nice on my fine violin as the original bridge while playing unamplified. I was worried about that. I play professionally, mostly classical, and needed something that wouldn't feedback during noisy cocktail hours and dinner parties. While not a nice sounding as the microphone set up I use, there is absolutely no feedback, even at unbearable volume levels. Here's the downside to this pick up: it is strange to use it to play solo. There is a very noticeable little punch with each bow stroke that I've never encountered with the many other pick ups I've purchased, no matter how lightly you play. Paired with my Baggs Para Acoustic DI box, I can turn the low register way down on the EQ to virtually eliminate the punch, but it affects the overall tone more than I'd like. When playing chamber music with others, the punch is undetectable even with the low register turned up where I like it. So, it serves its purpose very well. I wouldn't record solo with it, but in a group it's fine. Glad I got it installed, I now have an all purpose gig instrument that's hassle-free. Good job, Baggs...Edit 7/6/16 - I've finally found the perfect EQ from the PADI. I no longer hear that punch, it seems my bass was way up and disproportionate to the rest of the EQ. Now it sounds amazing, I'm going to try recording with it...Edit 8/27/2022 - The bridge pickup still works flawlessly. I've been playing through a Bose T1 digital mixer for the last few years, and the violin eq setting on the Tonematch automatically has a low cut/high pass filter at about 80hz, so no ugly bow sounds. So glad I went this route.

This pickup, especially when combined with a microphone will give some of the best amplified violin sound possible.The tone of the amplified sound will be greatly affected by bridge carving, so have it well carved & fitted, including the usual narrowing around the feet/ankles and thinning of the whole bridge.The cable is microphonic so be careful it's not picking up or causing vibrations.The clamp will also affect the acoustic tone of the violin, try to keep it as far as possible from the bridge area, or better yet, throw it out and just solder a small light 1/8 female jack to the clipped cable and attach it to your tailpiece (I use a hair elastic) or chinrest... ;-)
