There's an interesting video on Youtube about making your disk last. Actually it's about how you ruin your disk. It's worth seeking. The biggest point made is to keep your sander flat. By tipping it and using the edge or bearing down too hard you build up heat which melts the hooks and then it will no longer hold the sanding disk. It takes a long time to have the motor die so being able to buy a new pad is great.
