PAT METHENY: WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT GUITARE

Pat Metheny の「And I Love her」をYouTubeで聴き、どうしてもギターで弾きたくなり、楽譜を探していたところ本書を見つけ購入しました。”What's it all about”のCDは全部で10曲ですが、このスコアにはなんと12曲が掲載されていて、嬉しい誤算でした。掲載されている曲は、掲載順に以下のとおりです。（因みに楽譜の総ページ数は91ページです）1. Pat Metheny's What's It All About transcription book is invaluable. The transcriptions are very accurate and you get a first hand in depth analysis in Pat Metheny's brain, technique and playing style. What really makes this book invaluable is that you have access to tunes that would be extremely difficult to transcribe on your own (due to the various tunings Pat uses) and you can play these tunes in standard tuning with a standard acoustic or electric guitar.I'm a very serious jazz guitarist who is heavily influenced by Joe Pass. I have transcribed many of his solo guitar works, enough to play all of them at a 3 hour solo guitar restaurant gig. I say that to say I'm a serious transcriber who has spent countless hours transcribing tons and tons of solo guitar tunes from Joe Pass, Mimi Fox and Tuck Andress.Amongst all that, there would still be no way I'd be able to figure out how to transcribe Pat's works due to being unfamiliar with the various unusual tunings Pat uses. All these tunes in this album (except for two, "And I Love Her" and "The Sound of Silence") are done on a Baritone guitar with Nashville tuning (everything down a 5th from standard tuning except 4th and 3rd strings are restrung and tuned up an octave). Pat varies this Nashville tuning per tune (tuning everything up or down a half step or whole step). Transcribing these tunes yourself would be extremely difficult because you wouldn't even be able to start unless you know Pat's tuning. Metheny played Simon & Garfunkel's tune, The Sound of Silence, on a 42 string Pikasso Guitar. The song has been transcribed for standard guitar with tuning tuned up a half step from standard tuning. That aspect alone greatly contributes to the value of this book for me.For any jazz guitarist who wants to become acquainted with Pat Metheny's playing, this book is invaluable for you. Very accurate transcriptions and access to baritone guitar tunes (and one 42 string pikasso guitar) tunes on standard guitar is what you get with this book. The tunes sound great played on a standard guitar. If you so want, you can use this book to get acquainted with playing a baritone guitar as well. Regardless, this is a great book. I'm very much looking forward to adding some of these transcriptions to my repertoire as well as taking Pat Metheny concepts and applying them into my own playing.

Noten- und Tabulaturausgabe zum hervorragenden Album. Selbst für geübte Notenleser sind die Tabulaturen wichtig, da fast alle Songs in unterschiedlichen Gitarrenstimmungen gespielt werden, d.h. nichts ist mehr an seinem gewohnten Platz. Die Tabulaturen sind leider ohne Rhythmik, also nur die Zahlen für die Bünde. Das geht auch anders. Der Notenfont, die Zahlen und die Schrift sind im Real Book Stil, d.h., es sieht in etwa so aus, als hätte jemand alles mit einem Filzstift aufgeschrieben. Das gefällt sicher nicht jedem, da es etwas anstrengender zu lesen ist. Ich will jetzt nicht rummeckern, ich bin froh, dass es das Buch überhaupt gibt.
