Seven Studies in Pop Piano

I really like this book. It has great sounding studies to work with. My only wish is that the MP3 examples could be downloaded instead of streamed using soundcloud. But it is a great book !

Bill Hilton ist als Klavierlehrer auf youtube bekannt.Dieses 54 - Seiten-Heft ist sein zweites Buch und es enthält 7 Studien, die jeweils 1-3 Seiten lang sind.Es handelt sich nicht um Etüden zur Verbesserung der Spieltechnik. Vielmehr erklärt er mit Hilfe der Beispiele, wie er Pop-Klavier-Begleitungen gestaltet. Wie man schon an der Kürze der Notenbeispiele sehen kann, ist das Buch vergleichsweise textlastig. Denn er erklärt mit Worten quasi Takt für Takt, warum er diese Formen und Akkorde gewählt hat.Anschaulicher sind da seine Videos im Netz. Da sieht und hört man sofort wovon er spricht.Allerdings ist dieses Heft zum Verständnis der Videos hilfreich. Man kann nämlich die Filme anhalten und im Notenbild nachvollziehen, was er gerade erklärt hat.Insoweit erhält das Buch alleine vielleicht keine hohe Sternebewertung. Aber im Zusammenspiel mit dem Netzinhalt kann es sich lohnen.

Bill Hinton is a fantastic teacher. This book embodies his enthusiasm, clarity and passion for piano. I haven’t completed any grades myself but can read music and I’ve found this relatively ok to tackle.
