I purchased a Stagg footstool to replace the Proline brand that I acquired at my local Guitar Center. In fact, after searching the internet the Amazon link also provided the best price. Why did I replace the original? Simply because I made the mistake of putting a little too much weight on my first stand and the metal support braces literally cracked and it collapsed. Upon examination I realized the construction on the Proline stand was absolutely lousy. The cross supports were so thin that with the cheap riveting to provide the pivot point, there was less than a 1/4" of metal taking the weight at the point of concentrated force. Now the Stagg is such a leap above the Proline that there is no comparison. The Stagg footstool works perfectly and is built to last. So the choice is simple, maybe pay a bit more to begin with and have it last a lifetime or buy cheap(maybe because I actually paid less for the Stagg)and have it fall apart in the middle of a performance.
