Should have known I suppose, reading other reviews, but the two points are way out of alignment when you close them, about 2 or 3mm which is huge on such a small tool (7,5cm ). The steel is good quality so no way to bend it straight. Not worth it’s steep price, shame on Starrett!

Well made, tips match up and are ground to a very fine point. Sharp out of the box, just the tiniest light reflecting off the points indicating a very very small flat. And that is not such a bad thing in my book as the tips end up stronger and the lines slightly wider.I wanted them better though, so I polished them with a small felt wheel and polishing compound. It took a few seconds and now they are really sharp.One point is slightly longer, I’d guess at 0.5 mm. Again I’d call it an advantage (feature!) since I think it makes it easier to scribe a line parallel to an edge, so I left them like that.These are very minor subtleties so absolutely nothing to complain about. You are going to have to sharpen them (and all your other pointy stuff) sometime after all so you better learn how to do that, it goes with the territory so to speak. This is a lifetime tool.

El compás tiene muy buenos materiales y muy buen diseño. Sin embargo, como se aprecia en las fotos, las puntas no están paralelas. Una de ellas está rotada, y no un poco. Esto es algo que una marca como Starrett no puede permitirse. Son productos caros y se paga el precio por su calidad. Es la segunda vez que me sucede que un producto de Starrett llega con una calidad no digna de la marca y precio, y tengo que devolverlo. Cuando el producto llega sin problemas de calidad es un producto excepcional.
