This Tamiya F14A Tomcat kit is one of the best on the market. It might actually be best in its scale. The manufacturing is flawless, pieces fit together perfectly with little work, the detailing is impressive, the instructions are always great like any Tamiya kit, and the included decals are phenomenal, they are a little thick for the professional model builder and probably would require a little sanding after a gloss coat, but for an intermediate or advanced beginner, they are perfect. There are so many aftermarket parts available for this kit -you’d be surprised the level of detail you can get with a few extra add-ons. I would not recommend this kit for a first or second time beginning model airplane builder. It is a bit complicated, and there are lots of choices you need to make during the building of it that may not be suitable for someone who has never built a model airplane before. However, if you are someone who has built a few model airplanes in the past -maybe an intermediate model builder or advanced beginner - I would highly recommend this kit. Bottom line, this is an excellent model kit. It can be taken to professional levels of building, it can also be built straight out of the box with no extra parts or add-ons, and still produce something that you can be proud of displaying. I would not recommend this kit for a basic beginning model builder. There is some skill and fine detail work that isn’t suitable for a first time airplane model kit. But this is a kit that will challenge you and introduce you to some new skills and is definitely worth taking a look at. Also, the prices on Amazon for this kit are better by far than I have seen in person at local Hobby shops!
