The quality of the paint is fine, it feels smooth if a little thick so may need thinning for your use. I am no expert on the colours but they seem representative and the box makes a big thing about them being historically accurate. I like the fact that for this set they have toned down the ridiculous paint names they love to give colours making it easier to find what you want. Each paint comes with a mixing ball included which helps a lot when using sealed dropper bottles. Although despite me shaking them a lot couldn't hear it in the paint.2.75 a bottle is reasonable value although not all of these are paints you get 4 washes and one effect bottle. Now I do a bit of model painting and already have all the washes I need so if buying this kit it bumps the price of the actual useful paint colours up making it less of a value proportion for regular painters. Still for a beginner and so long as you are painting British soldiers it's okay.

I picked this one up when it appeared on Vine because I've enjoyed similar paint sets before, and a targeted set like this in an area I don't usually paint is a great way to open up possibilities I wouldn't otherwise have thought to.The paints here though haven't been quite as good to me as the vallejo ones I'm used to. The pigments aren't as evenly distributed and I've found them more sensitive than usual to the amount of thinner I use. It's a good selection of genuinely interesting colours I've found many new uses for, but I don't think I'll be shopping Army Painter again.

Fab paints! Good colour selection too. A new range with ball bearings inside them to help mix the paint flowing in each pot. Great value for money given the different selection.

I can only imagine this is intended as a gift set because all though the overall price is very good for twenty paints most modellers will have most of them in their repertoire already. The box art is a little reminiscent of Airfix packaging, the paints themselves are well secured in plastic formers containing ten paints each which can be laid out on your work surface. Also included is a booklet of instructions and hints which sadly don't really relate to this set as it features almost entirely fantasy figures and other paints.Anyone who uses Vallejo paints will be familiar with the bottle shapes although these contain a mixing ball. Look at the bottle you intend to use as some say to shake well and the others to shake lightly. I see this as a bit of a gimmick as I have never had any problem shaking other paints without them.Be prepared for wastage as after shaking the thicker paints tend to ooze out of the top and require you to wipe the bottle after use. What I found very useful was the labels stating exactly what each paint is as opposed to other brands where I often have to Google the colour I need for a particular feature. 'Command Red' is a very bright colour which I won't have much use for but 'Beret Maroon' is a great inclusion. The one metallic colour included is 'Steel' which is a colour I would buy again.I usually paint with a mixture of Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics and had just finished a batch of Eighth Army when these arrive but I managed to find a 3d printed gun and crew on which to test them.I normally undercoat in black and found that most of the colours needed two coats especially 'Fair Skin'. You will be please to know that these paints are compatible with Vallejo's primer whereas I often encounter problems using Tamiya over this.In consistency the basic colours are similar to the Vallejo 'Panzer Aces' range, quite thick with a good flow rate.I found the 'Fair Skin' to be very pink and unless you want your soldiers all looking like Barbie it will require two coats of the 'Warm Skin Tone' to tone it down. The one effect paint included is "Mud Splatter' which is similar to 'Flat Earth', maybe a little browner. I used this to good effect on the front of my 45 pounder though it would probably have looked better if I could have found where my wife hid the cocktail sticks, a matchstick is just a little crude.'Black Tone' is even thinner than a black wash and looks like dirty water. It did work nicely on an Italian gun crew that I was painting at the same time whose uniforms needed toning down.I think a couple of the colours could have been swapped out for khaki drab and canvas but overall this is a great gift set for someone who is just getting into painting miniatures and hasn't already accumulated a large collection of paints and I can see a lot of these selling at Christmas.I am looking forward to the WWII German set.
