I ordered the Army Painter Mega 50 Paint set on Amazon for getting back into painting fantasy/scifi/historical miniatures. On unboxing I verified I received all paint colors, washes, metal, and skin tones. Everything was included as listed in the description and on the top cover of the box. The included brush appears good, and the triangular handle is super comfortable. Set included a painting guide, catalog, and instructions regarding preparing the paints for first time use (important: must dispense/empty top medium before use) see photo. The box is nice, and the trays hold all of the paints with room to hold more in an empty tray provided. I was thinking I would need to buy a special case, box, or paint storage solution, but this box is pretty nice and I plan on using it for storing these!I had just used this brand of paints at a intro to mini painting clinic/class at my local game store. I found them to be good quality. Using thinning, wet palette, dry brushing, and layering techniques is key to these paints. They are not as fast drying or "one coat" as some other brands or product options from Army Painter, but honestly, these are very minor subjective observations. Taking the time to build up layers and patience I think is key. Would work well for quick basic paint jobs to get minis on the table as well if used that way.Set comes woth lots of colors, some washes, and metalics to get started on many minis of typical design. The metalics are nice for armor/weapons. The provided white/black and so many simular tones make blending/mixing colors for variation pretty easy. The washes I think need some thinning, but I am out of practice by some decades. This set did not come with a primer or ball bearings for mixing.I painted fantasy miniatures as a kid in the 80's back when minis were still made of lead, and only the Elder Gods know what those paints were made of. It is nice to see the new products are less toxic.I am happy with this purchase and think it is a good starter set for getting into the hobby.

In an attempt to coax myself into a hobby I used to have years ago I was looking for paint sets to get myself jumpstarted back into model painting so here are my thoughts:VALUE FOR MONEY- by far this is one of the best sets of paints when it comes to value per paint, separately each paint is £2-£3 (UK) which totalled up would be a hefty £150, however at £99 youre saving over £50! which (as many mini painters will tell you) is a great bargain.PAINT QUALITY- (WHEN ARRIVED) Sadly for me this was minus 1 point on behalf of The Army Painter, due to a shipping delay (COVID-19) when my paints arrived they were horribly separated into the pigments and medium that make up the acrylic. The blue pigments being the worst affected by this.- (WHEN IN USE) I have found that some of the paints in this set have some of the best coverage of most brands of matte acrylics, with some standouts being their; Pure Red and Goblin Green (very similar in colour to the original Games Workshop Goblin Green!) thinned with small amounts of water these will stretch far over your models and give them some really vibrant colour.-(metallics) Their metallic paints are a little lacklustre, with the shiny paint flakes coming off onto your hands even when the paint is dry, this makes handling the models (for games or for display) difficult. DO NOT USE EXPENSIVE BRUSHES WITH THE METALLIC PAINTS, due to the concentration of the paint reflective flakes they will cling almost indefinitely to your authentic hair brushes, use old or cheap synthetic brushes when using metallic paints.-(washes and "tones") The 4 tone washes that come in this set are really quite good washes in terms of coverage, however, they DO NOT dry matte. using the "Dark Tone", when it dries it leaves a glossy oily sheen to the areas you applied it to. This is no bother if you intend to paint over it, but is a bother if you wanted a matte finish to your models.EASE OF USE- Its no secret that the "dropper bottle" is superior to the pot paints, it allows for greater control over the longevity of the paint and also means you don't have to sacrifice the ferrules of your brushes to scoop paint.- I would highly recommend buying a paint/ink pigment shaker as I have found that when left unattended for a longer period of time e.g. an extended vacation, the pigments will separate from the medium.REGIMENT BRUSH (FREE GIFT IN THE BOX)- The Regiment Brush is by far the beginners best asset in this box. The brush is a non-synthetic that uses real hair for the bristles. The ferrule is wonderful and tight preventing the bristles to fray and bend out of shape. The brush shape is great for most general painting as well as being able to achieve a great outcome on detail work too, rolling the brush gently on paper towel will help you to achieve a very fine tip. The triangular bush handle is wonderfully ergonomic and fits gracefully into most hand shapes.SUMMARY TL:DR-very good paint set for beginners or returning veterans-paint coverage is very good-metallics and tones are 50/50 good and bad.-Regiment Brush is a must and a great general and detail brush.
