Retains the cpu as it should. I bought the red one first as it claims it's for the "18xx" series, it is not. The cpu looks off balance and there are two spaces on top and bottom that don't make cpu contact. That being said, this Thermalright black retention system works perfectly - the cpu is level and the piece meets the form of the cpu wonderfully

Excellent product, well machined as I think it's CNC'ed and fits the Intel Core 7 Ultra just fine.Got it as a just in case even though I'm not overclocking as I've been aware of the issues of the 13th gen (to a lesser degree), but also the 14th gen Intel chips, the i9 in particular having major issues and failing prematurely.So far, so good, and with a Thermatake Peerless Assassin for cooling, the temps of the CPU stay in the mid 40C range.Glad I got this, and installation is a breeze, just do what the instructions say, finger tight, nothing more on the screws, or you risk potential damage.
