Very cool kit at a very reasonable price.For a kid whose got some school knowledge this would be great. As a rusty adult, wanting to expand my other hobbies with lighting etc, I thought I could do with some practice. This isn't quite explanatory for that.90% of the instructions are there, but it doesn't say what to do or where to put the resistor or "LED ic". The images also don't quite fit what mine look like, so I'm going to have to wait until I see a more capable friend until I finish.The board is beautiful, though.update - so, 2 of the parts are surface mounted, ideally this needs solder paste and a heat gun or something, otherwise it's a magnifier and an incredibly steady hand. I've removed a star for that because that's pretty advanced stuff.

The kit comes in a plastic case with instructions which could be better. The reason i say this isn't really for beginners is that there are a couple of very tiny pieces in the kit, ( and i mean tiny ), that can't really be soldered using a soldering iron, you would need a hot air gun/rework station, obviously if you are good at soldering then you could probably do it, but i am a beginner with no soldering skills and i struggled, in fact the end product didn't work, so somewhere down the line i messed up. Shame as i had high hopes for this kit.

I appreciate that some microelectronics are small and this can’t be helped but the size of the resistor and led chip was so small that no beginner would be able to solder it. There was also no direction in the instructions as to how to do so, merely just “solder this on”. I think the chips and resistors should possibly come already soldered on as they’re just too small for a beginner to solder themselves. Pictured is the 2 different chips next to a 1 penny piece for scale.

Instructions does not mention how to soldier SMD Resistor and LED ic. They are tiny and I never dealt with such tiny elements. Do I need to use hot gun to attach them?

This kit comes with a ton of components for the price, and includes everything except for the tools.I really like the finish of the device and it is actually worth displaying it (if you know enough soldering to get it done properly!).I have a lot of theoretical electronics experience, but almost 0 soldering experience. And I would not recommend this to someone who hasn’t soldered before. Most improtantly, this includes 3 SMD (sufrace mounted devices) components. These are a pain to solder in the best of places, but the absolutely tiny size of these make it almost impossible to do correctly by someone without enough experience.Secondly, the leds are of different sizes and thus the device rocks about as you solder more and more of them, making it very hard to solder properly.I did an overall horrible job (mostly due to my lack of skill and me losing one piece by mistake).
