I used the TongSheng TSDZ2 combined with a 16.5Ah battery from Em3ev to electrify my 2016 Diamondback Haanjo Trail drop-bar bike. Total cost, about $1,000.00, not including the bike. To install the system, I had to:1. unwrap the bars and remove the shifter cables and housing for the front derailleur, break the chain and remove the front derailleur. I replaced the chain and the bar wrap.2. remove the front crank and replace it with the TongSheng motor and transmission. This is no more difficult than replacing a crank, but does require a crank tool.3. When installed, the motor and transmission are very close to the bike bottom bracket - too close to accommodate any cables or hoses passing below the bottom bracket, as they do on most road bikes. Since there is no room for the existing cables under the TongSheng motor, I had to install a replacement cable housing that runs all the way from the shifter to the rear derailleur.4. move the rear hydraulic brake line so that it runs over the bottom bracket. Fortunately, there was extra length in the brake line so no modifications required.5. mount the control panel on the handlebars. The mount is solid and the control panel went on easily. There is a lot of extra cable connecting the motor and control panel, which I doubled back and forth and secured to the brake line and rear derailleur cable housing on the down tube using multiple small zip ties. It's bulky, but looks OK.6. mount the wired speed sensor to the rear triangle, same as other bike speed sensors. The zip tie connection was fiddly and does not seem positive. I'll bet I'll have to fool with it regularly. Since this installation is permanent, I may just drill holes and bolt it in place.7. because the TongSheng motor is torque-sensing, a throttle and brake sensors are not needed, saving wires and clutter. This is a pedelec system, not an electric motorcycle. You have to pedal, just not as hard as before.8. Although not shown on the photos, the TongSheng kit includes a thumb control that attaches to the handlebar and duplicates the power controls on the control panel. The thumb control does not work for a drop bar bike, is redundant, and I did not install it. That means that my control panel has an unterminated female plug sticking out of it. I'll have to do something about that, probably pack the plug in grease and tape it to the back of the control panel.9. Of course, install the battery, which was straight forward. Again, there was a lot of extra cable that I doubled back and forth and secured to the brake line and shifter cable housing on the down tube.If the above sounds daunting, consider having your local bike shop perform the installation. I've only used the electrified bike a couple of times due to bad weather (it's January), but it worked well and allowed me to climb the steepest local hills with only moderate effort. The 36v system seems fully adequate for my needs. Be aware that big lithium ion batteries store a lot of energy and present a fire risk, particularly during charging. I charge mine in a big steel ammo can outside the house.Update: January, 2020, one year later. I liked the Tongsheng kit well enough that I bought a second one and electrified my wife's Surly Long Haul Trucker. She has about 700 miles on her bike and loves it. I have about 1700 miles on mine, including a 450 mile tour that we made in Northern Minnesota this summer. The bikes did not notice the drenching rains that we encountered and performed flawlessly. The drive systems on both bikes continue to work fine. My speedometer/odometer malfunctioned and interfered with operation of the motor. I removed the speedometer/odometer magnet and the motor works fine with immediate response, adequate power and long range. I use a separate bike computer for distance and speed. The blue gear on each bike is holding up well (Google it). If you mountain bike or otherwise mash your pedals, get the bronze gear. I've enclosed the extra wire on the downtube with 3/4 inch heat-shrink tubing, which looks good and is watertight. I ended up installing the thumb controls - I drilled holes through the thumb control for both bikes and zip-tied them to the handlebars. I find the thumb controls useful. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Tongsheng kits.Update - 2.5 years later, June 2021. Approximately 3000 miles on the bike and it’s still going strong. Zero problems, except that the speedometer/odometer still does not work. Blue gear holding up fine. Motor is still quiet. The extra weight of the battery and motor makes my bike hard on the butt over bumps, so I added a Cane Creek Thudbuster seatpost shock absorber, which helps. My battery just failed, but that’s not the bike’s fault. I rode 12 miles home without power, which was surprisingly easy - the unpowered tong sheng motor presents little, if any, additional pedaling resistance.Overall, I believe that the success of a tong sheng e-bike build is largely dependent on the quality and fit of the donor bike. Install the motor on a good, well-fitted bike and you have a good, well-fitted bike that’s easier to pedal. Install it on a clapped out, evil-handling bike and you have a clapped out, evil-handling bike that’s easier to pedal.

Il motore è arrivato nei tempi previsti, ma purtroppo non funziona. La potenza è insufficiente e non riesce a dare il giusto movimento ai pedali. Sentito il produttore, che si è dimostrato collaborativo e prodigo di consigli, il problema non è stato risolto e si è deciso di rendere il tutto per un rimborso.
