This knife block is likely one of the best you can find. It's attractive with a fine finish, heavy, constructed of dense hardword that will withstand years of knife edges being inserted and withdrawn from it. I bought it as a birthday gift for my son and I expect that it will outlast him and become an heirloom for his children. It replaces one I bought previously, constructed of some tropical wood that would not survive being subjected to repeated interactions with knife edges, especially the serrated ones. The block itself is really a 5-star product to match with Henckels 5-star knives. But like almost all knife blocks on the market, it lacks one essential component, a slot for a cleaver. As a consequence, I've knocked off one star for that.To get around that issue, I made my own cleaver holder, finished it and attached it to the block. The accompanying photos show how that was done. It required an additional piece to separate the cleaver holder from the block itself. This was necessary to avoid drilling screw holes that would intersect with the existing knife slots.

I had one of the Koosh type knife holders, and I could never get all of my knives in there, and the angle was terrible. This has slots for all of my really nice Zwilling knives, a sharpener, and scissors. Especially helpful since I’ve bought individual knives and not a set over time.

This is a nice block that can hold my 10" & 8" chef knives and my long sharpening steel. The only drawback is that I received the one with 6 steak knife slots along the bottom rather than 4. So my steak knife handles now rub together.
