Bought this as a gift for a coworker who loves science. Item slightly smaller than expected, but still very cute and cool. Happy with the product.

First, I will admit that I am a total weather geek, have been since I was a kid, and I'm a forest ecologist interested in weather and climate effects on natural systems. I run a Davis VP2 system that has been connected to the Weather Underground for over 18 years (KCTCOLEB1); we have a second Davis console on the dinner table. I have about a dozen thermometers and barometers all around and inside of the house. I have a Netamo station. I have a sky cam, a Galileo thermometer, and a liquid barometer, too. Oh, and a cedar stick "barometer" as well. So it was a no-brainer when I stumbled upon a Fitzroy storm glass that didn't require a chemistry set to make it - I had to have this, even though the reviews were spotty. So I ordered it and it was here in a couple of days. I stuck the tube in the base and put it on a stable shelf and LEFT IT ALONE. Within a few days, the solution started doing what it was supposed to do. Now, after about 3 weeks, the storm glass is in its groove and has correctly reacted to barometric pressure changes, big pressure bombs, windy weather, and clear weather. I'm a tough customer and would have gone neurotic on this thing had it not worked to spec. Well, it works. Just put it somewhere very stable, not prone to vibrations when you walk by it, and just leave it alone and wait. Pretty cool.
