I got this after returning a faulty Hagibis MC40.I was worried about the fan noise at first, but actually I don't really notice it at all. If my windows are open I can't hear it even when I focus on it. I run my entire M4 Mac Mini off of it, with a Samsung 990 PRO SSD.I only give it 4 stars because the temperature reaches 60 degrees, which is technically not a problem at all, but I would be more comfortable if it were a bit cooler. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.

Wat een lawaai kan zo'n klein ventilatortje maken....Heb je een stille laptop, wil je toegang tot meer opslag op een snelle manier dan werkt dit prima, maar het lawaai is dusdanig dat ik de opslag zo snel mogelijk weer ontkoppel. Dat kan niet de bedoeling zijn!Slechte aankoop.

After 6 months of light sporadic use the drive disconnects randomly from the computer, corrupting the file system and files I was working on. Do not buy this!

I purchased a WD Black 2TB SN770 NVME for this. The inclusion of both USBC and USBA cables is nice. It also includes the tool to open it and some heat mat to put on top of the NVME. Install was super easy. Hardest part was wiggling it out of the rubber wrap around. I plugged in the drive to my M1 Mac mini and it was detected immediately. I formatted it as APFS since it will only be used with Macs.Ran a speed test with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and it was reporting 3,000mbps symmetric read and write. This is incredibly fast. I actually got a M4 MBP and compared it and it running the same speed as the internal storage. On my M1 it was not that fast. On idle it's barely warm. In use it heats up but it's more of a warm laptop temp. You can still pick it up and handle it no problem. Only time it really got hot I was writing about 1.3TB to it. So it was going all out. But in daily use, even running programs off it, it's not hot.The unit has a fan but I've never heard it. maybe if I was right next to it, but on my desk I can't hear anything. For the price you get a great enclosure with fantastic speed and performance. I did check the firmware of the controller and noticed it was only a version behind but updated it anyway. Still working great. Only issue I've had is it gets ejected automatically sometimes during macOS sleep mode. This happens maybe once a week. It's odd, but so far hasn't be a real issue. Just need to disconnect and reconnect to remount.Would definitely recommend this enclosure to anyone with Thunderbolt 3, 4 , or 5 on their computer. You'll expand your storage for far cheaper than OEM's will charge and get the same speed as your internal storage. Win/win.

I’ve been using the UGREEN 40GB Enclosure with my Samsung EVO 970 Plus SSD, and here’s my honest experience after testing it thoroughly.Build Quality & DesignThe design is sleek and premium, with a solid aluminum casing that feels durable. Installation was simple, and I appreciate that UGREEN includes a thermal pad, a screwdriver, and an extra screw—small details that make a difference. The package also comes with two cables: a USB-C to USB-C (Thunderbolt) and a USB-A to USB-C, making it versatile for different setups.One of my favorite features is the silicone grip, which adds protection and makes handling safer, especially since the enclosure can get warm. Its compact size also makes it very portable, which is great for on-the-go use.Performance & Heat ManagementRight from the moment it’s connected, the enclosure gets warm and heats up further during data transfers. While this is expected for NVMe enclosures, the heat level feels noticeable.The built-in fan does help with cooling, but it has a slight noise. In a work environment, it’s barely noticeable, but in a quiet home setting, you might hear it when everything else is silent. However, the noise isn’t loud enough to be disruptive.Connection StabilityThis is where I faced some issues. I experienced frequent disconnections and automatic reconnections, which interrupted my workflow, especially since I initially used it to install and run apps on my Mac mini M4. This became frustrating as it caused apps to crash or stop working. (I installed Xcode & Android Studio), I know they're heavy, but the connection also happened even before installing those heavy ones, you would only notice when a warning appears on your screen saying that it's re-connected, but that will in a second cause your Apps to freeze, and you're work to be lost.Because of this, I stopped using it for apps and instead repurposed it for Time Machine backups and general storage. Since making this change, I have had no issues so far.Speed & CompatibilitySpeed tests on my Internal Mac mini M4 (256 GB Model) showed read & write speeds between 1900-2700 MB/s, while for the EVO970 Plus in the UGREEN 40 GB Enclosure it shows 1400-3000 mb/s. which is slower than the SSD’s or Mac Capabilities or even the Enclosure features, but due to I have no other read SSD to test, I cannot actually determine where the slowing coming from, but I thought it’s worth noting.

La carcasa se calienta mas o menos pero al parecer no peligra la memoria. El problema es que el ventilador está activo casi permanentemente y no es que sea demasiado ruidoso pero con la frecuencia en que está activo si suele ser molesto. El protector de silicona no amortigua el ruido y según mis observaciones no ayuda a disipar el calor por lo que decidí quitárselo al case y ahora funciona mejor.

Ein sehr schneller Speicher, der im Test 3800 MB/s erreicht. Diese Platte ist besonders geeignet, wenn kurzfirstige Spitzenleistungen erwünscht sind, wie z.B. bei Spielen, ... Der Preis für diese Spitzenleistung ist allerdings eine beträchtliche Wärme-Entwicklung und dadurch auch ein hörbares Lüftergeräusch. Wer damit kein Problem hat, bekommt hier eine superschnelle Lösung. Für Dauerbetrieb würde ich eine andere Lösung bevorzugen.

I use a lot of hard drives in my work usually the 3.5" mechanical drives, but more recently I buy more and more NVME ssd's and an enclosure as they are quicker and more and less likely to fail, this Ugreen enclosure is one of the best I have used, this enclosure gives me consistent read and write speeds of over 3000mbps (using the Blackmagic disk speed test). One thing I will say is, don't skimp on the NVME ssd you buy, the wd black 850x is brilliant and probably my favourite although I'm using Lexar 2tb 800pro NVME's in this enclosure and its been great. The only slight caveats are as in other reviews, the drive does get warm and the fan is a little noisy, but that does not bother me too much, the speeds are what matter!
